Frequently Asked Questions

We answer some of the common questions we get asked

What size groups can you cater too?

Each tour vehicle contains passengers from multiple bookings until it is filled to the ‘maximum guest limit’ (shown on each tour). This limit keeps our group small so it’s fast and fun with premium access.

A tour will operate when a minimum of two seats are booked. If there are only two seats booked, great you will have the tour all to yourselves in one of our smaller vehicles. The more a tour fills up, the bigger the vehicle we use until our maximum guest limit for that tour is reached.

If you would like a completely private tour for two, or, have a larger group than the ‘maximum guest limit’ please contact us for options.

We can cater to larger groups by combining multiple vehicles for any tour.

Do you take parties like a 40th or 50th?

Yes. A day tour with your friends enjoying drinks and tasty food is one of the most enjoyable but hassle free ways to celebrate a birthday. We take care of the details and let us know if you would like something extra special too!

What is the minimum number of people you will pick up?

There is no minimum restriction to book so singles and couples can book tours, but there is a minimum number of people needed to run tours effectively.

We do our best to make sure every tour runs, which sometimes means shuffling minimum numbers together so tours can operate.

We need to group together at least 2 to 4 people (minimum number shown on each tour) for it to operate.

Can you pick me up from Sydney?

No, we do not offer transfers to Sydney.
However Sydney customers can book a Two Fat Blokes pick-up/drop-off to ‘Maitland’ and catch the train between ‘Sydney-Newcastle-Maitland’, (see ‘Transfer Locations’)

Do you have free parking?

Yes we have free parking at our Two Fat Blokes Kitchen and Deli. Stop in for a bite to eat, pickup some local produce for your picnic lunch, or shop for a tasty gift. Tour customers are also able to leave their cars here for free to start/end their tour from the Two Fat Blokes Kitchen.

What are your pickup locations?

We offer pickup and drop-off at your accommodations front door. Please reference our ‘Transfer Locations’ for eligible accommodation locations and any associated fees.
We do not offer transfers to Sydney.

Which accommodations do you pick up from?

Any accommodation, (commercial or residential) within our transfer locations. Please reference our ‘Transfer Locations’ for eligible accommodation locations and any associated fees.

If I drive in to meet the tour, will I be too tipsy to drive at the end of the day?

We don’t recommend that you drink and drive. We advise people who drive in for the day and drink responsibly to arrange to hang out and have dinner in the spot you’re parked before driving back to your destination. Better yet, stay at local accommodation and take advantage of our free transfers. Please contact us for suggestions.

Can we get to your pickup locations by public transit?

On our full day tours we can pick you up at Maitland or Newcastle train stations. There is not a lot of public transport in the Hunter Valley, but you also have the option of a taxi to get to our pickup locations.

What sort of vehicles do you use?

We have 2 Mercedes Sprinters, 1 Mercedes Vito and 2 Nissan El Grands.

How do your vehicles differ from other tours?

Our modern luxury vehicles are spacious and comfortably seat up to 12 guests. This allows for an easy and fun interaction within a small group setting (unavailable in smaller sedans, limos or bikes) and access to boutique locations. Other bigger bus tours get limited access to the more public tasting areas, with tasting queue delays, slow transitions and too many individual schedules.

Does bad weather stop tours?

No. Our tours are not affected by weather and will run rain, hail or shine.

Can a tour be cancelled by Two Fat Blokes?

Yes, we need a minimum number of 2 people to operate tours. You will be notified before the event of any cancellations and be fully refunded.

Do you have disabled access?

Yes our Kitchen and Deli is at ground level with easy access for disabled customers. Our tours unfortunately do not cater to wheelchairs.

Is there a lot of walking on your tours?

No, there is not a lot of walking, just enough to keep it fun. You should be mobile enough to get in and out of a van, and we park close to each winery so there is no big hikes to the front door. There are other optional walks around the vineyard and such for the more mobile, we will cater to your needs and abilities.

What beverages are included on the tour?

All wine/beer tasting during the experiences and wineries are included. Tour lunches include glasses of wine as outlined in the itinerary. Chilled water will be available on the van and during lunch. Additional glasses of wine or any purchases from the wineries direct are not included.

May we have wine with our lunch?

Yes there is wine included with your lunch and you can purchase extra wine by the glass or bottle if you wish!

With what sorts of people might I expect to share our tour?

You will encounter easy-going, social people who are interested in wine, even if they don’t know much about it. They will become extra-friendly once they’ve started tasting.

Will I look like a noob if I don’t know how to hold my wine glass?

No absolutely not, your guide and the cellar doors will show you how to hold your wine glass, how to smell and taste your wine.

Can I bring my child?

No. Your child would be confused by a group of tipsy adults singing, “Come on Eileen” when they really don’t know the words. Fun, yes, but not pretty… Seriously, sometimes we can accommodate children, but most often not. Please give us a call if this is an issue for you.

Can I bring my dog?

No. As some cellar doors do not allow dogs.

Is there room on the bus to store any wine that I buy?

Yes, when you purchase your wine the winery will label your wine with you name and we will store it safely in the bus for you.

How will I get my wine home?

We will store your wine for you safely in the bus and then return it to you when we drop you off at your accommodation. Most wineries will also ship your wine for you direct from their cellar door if you need to.

How many guests are normally on your tour?

It varies. Our tours usually have around eight guests on board with a maximum up to 12 guests.

What tour is best for me?

Uncork The Hunter is our most popular tour choice for guests staying in Wine Country as it offers the most value for your time and includes a wide range of experiences. If your short on time, jump on our Half Day Snapshot to maximise your visit.

What do I wear?

Dress comfortably for the season you are visiting. There is no dress code but please respect the establishments you are visiting and dress appropriately as you would in any other licensed club or venue… and leave the ACDC sleeveless T at home!

Which wineries do we visit?

There is no set schedule of wineries. Our tour guides will take advantage of the best winery experiences available on that day, including special events, to make sure you get the most value from your itinerary, have an enjoyable day and maximise your taste time of the Hunter Valley.

Can we pick the wineries?

Yes, we do our best to try and accommodate your preference but it may not always be possible. If your group occupies the whole vehicle, we are happy to take you to the wineries of your choice, as long as those wineries permit us to visit that day. If you are sharing the vehicle with others, your tour guide will take responsibility for planning the best tour day possible for the entire group. We are careful to avoid taking people to places they may have already visited.

How do you determine which wineries are best for my group?

Because we know the area so well and try to deliver the best experiences based on:
– Rave reviews from previous tour groups
– Boutique, non-touristy locations
– Excellent wines, moderately priced
– Warm & friendly service
– Perks available (cellar tours, barrel-tasting, wine-maker available, etc.)

How long will we spend at each winery?

There is no set time. Some winery experiences take longer than others. The average is about 45min – 1hour at each winery.

What type of lunch is included with the tours?

All our included tour lunches are of the highest quality and really satisfy our customers:
– Hunter Gatherers Tour includes a generous antipasto lunch amongst the vines.

Are there any winery tasting fees?
